A 23 year old teacher in Florida has been arrested for having sex with a 14 year old student. As per all of the other cases like this, the teacher was female. Disturbing, yes? I'm sure all of you guys will be interested to know that she was "hot" - as you can tell by the two pictures that are posted on the Smoking Gun website. Reading this entire story- as sick as it is, the most disturbing part was the banner ad displayed on the Smoking Gun website:

    Reverse Racism & more Lyrics

This is something that's been getting on my nerves for awhile now- so here goes. Clearly, racism is wrong. We all know that, regardless of the fact that we're all often guilty when we let our stereotypes and preconceived notions about people dictate our thoughts, words, and actions. At least some of the time. It's natural. But for the most part- racism is bad. There is a definite difference, however, in saying "It is wrong to be racist, and saying "that *bleep* group of *bleeps* hates my group." Regardless of the fact that your group may or may not feel wronged- isn't accusing someone else, JUST because they're a member of another group EQUALLY as racist?

Here are a couple of lyrics from the new Kanye West song "All Falls Down." If another race referred to Black, Asian, or Hispanic people the way I feel that he's referring to White, I think all hell would break loose. Or am I being racist myself? It actually makes me cringe to listen to this song. I realize music is self-expression, but I can't say certain things without other people feeling attacked- why can't I have the same rights.
    Read for yourself:

VERSE 2 (Straight Copy/Pasted, I did no editing here)

"Man I promise, I'm so self conscious
That's why you always see me with at least one of my watches
Rollies and Pasha's done drove me crazy
I can't even pronounce nothing, pass that versace!
Then I spent 400 bucks on this
Just to be like n**** you ain't up on this!
And I can't even go to the grocery store
Without some ones that's clean and a shirt with a team
It seems we living the american dream
But the people highest up got the lowest self esteem
The prettiest people do the ugliest things
For the road to riches and diamond rings
We shine because they hate us, floss cause they degrade us
We trying to buy back our 40 acres
And for that paper, look how low we a'stoop
Even if you in a Benz, you still a nigga in a coop/coupe"

    And part of verse 3..

" say f*** the police, thats how I treat em
We buy our way out of jail, but we can't buy freedomWe'a buy a lot of clothes when we don't really need em
Things we buy to cover up what's inside
Cause they made us hate ourself and love they wealth
That's why shortys hollering "where the ballas' at?"
Drug dealer buy Jordans, crackhead buy crack
And a white man get paid off of all a dat"

This is a form of self expression and a statement of how he feels, and in some ways I feel truly sorry for any racial or cultural group that feels trapped in a stereotype. But producing songs like this isn't going to help kill that stereotype!

Thoughts on this? I'm really interested in what you guys think!

New Look to Yahoo Mail Yahoo mail has increased storage space to 100MB, and with a whole new look. Obviously they are beginning to feel the threat of Gmail. This is good- because I intended on holding on to my Yahoo account. Honestly though, this is too little too late for Yahoo. They realized their mail was popular, and started downsizing space & charging more- they realized their games were popular, so started charging for the good ones or for rights to play against others. To me, there is a difference between good business and being a little too greedy & not valuing your long term customers. I think in the next few weeks I'll be using gmail full time, and just keeping my Yahoo for friends, etc.

More Song Lyrics Bobby had a post the other day on language & words, and it is certainly evident by some of these songwriters! The fact that someone could even talk like this amazes me. Here are two more lyircs from Chingy's "Right Thurr" (the title gives it all away).

    * "In real life girl remind me of Pocahontas, she be at events stop the press when she pass." - I'm assuming that he means she has long black hair? But- the way it's written, it sounds like Pocahontas was some type of bling-blinging press monster. Maybe we should call her P. Ho?

    * "Girl can I touch ya where it's sunny?" - Okay- I've heard of private parts being described as "where the sun don't shine" - but this is where it's sunny, meaning she's either always naked, or he's asking permission to touch her arm. Or- he wants to go to Miami. I'm confused.

I'm still red, although no longer purple (yay). SEACREST OUT!

Ship Island was awesome.. I'm purple (I thought sun burns were supposed to be red?) - and spotty all over. I think I may have sand burns on my feet as well. But, it was great to be able to spend some time with some great friends. For more of a recap you can read Ali's blog. Hopefully soon, I will have lots of pictures developed to be able to show.

Not much else really for today- I'm just trying to make it through work without having my chair touch my back or shoulders.

Check this out, I've heard of weird items, but this takes the cake. Fun though!
    John Kerry Urinal Targets.

That's it for now.. more song lyrics later!

    Senseless Song Lyrics

Okay so we all know that the music industry is going downhill, and that's not even counting the MTV SuperBowl Halftime show. But, today as I drove to work I heard at least 4 lyrics that I couldn't understand. Not because they were rapped super fast, or because they were in ghetto speak, but because they flat out didn't make any sense.

So, I'm going to be posting these here throughout the week and next- and I invite you all to join in, add some, and try to help me figure out what the heck these mean!

    Here are the first two:

    1. R. Kelly, Ignition "It's like 'Murder, She Wrote' once I get ya out them clothes!" - Okay.. so what does an age old Angela Landsbury show have to do with R. Kelly having sex with underaged girls? Does that imply that he's going to pee on them like serial killers do? Or maybe he's talking about how he's going to go to jail? Any ideas on this one?

    2. Gwen Stefani/No Doubt, Keep on Dancin' "The waves keep on crashin' on me for some reason, but your love keeps on coming like a thunderbolt."
Excuse me, but what is a thunderbolt??? I've heard of lightning bolts, and thunder, but a thunderbolt? And why does it keep on coming at you? Did you piss it off?

Enjoy scholars, because I need some linguists to figure this shit out!

Not much has been going on- well, actually a LOT has been going on, hence the no time to post thing. But other than working my butt off and trying to get the most out of my weekends, there's really not much interesting to post. Here are a couple of things I can think of:

    Wedding!
No, not mine- gotcha! Tommy attended my cousin's wedding with me this last weekend- it was cool for a couple of reasons. #1- I got to play "Girl Eye for the Straight Guy" & help pick out wardrobe much to Bobby & Ali's amusement. It was fun! #2 -it was the first and only wedding we've attended together since Michelle & Paul's (which wasn't really a together thing because I was standing in it :)) so, we got to comment on what we liked and what we didn't. #3 - I've NEVER seen some of my relatives drink, because they DON't. So it was funny to watch them tipsy- together. Finally, #4 - The bartender was either slow, drunk, stoned, or a combination of all three- because she kept giggling insanely and pouring the wrong drinks. At one point, she completely MISSED my glass, and poured the champagne for a whole 3 seconds before she realized. When she finally got it in the glass- she poured enough to overflow the entire glass, the bar, and the floor underneath the bar. Oops!

    Bad Drivers
I've had enough bad drivers almost hit me (or hit me) in the past two weeks to almost make me scared to drive. I always knew New Orleans was bad (c'mon, we only have to drive in a square for our drivers test)- but not THIS bad. Another post on that later. I will say however, that a Dot Foods Truck almost killed me- he didn't see me when he tried to merge in my lane (long story). Had I not gotten onto the shoulder and fast, I would have been a Becca sandwich. He still managed to take off some paint, my rearview mirror, and a plastic moulding piece on my door. The greatest part of it is, after I filed the hit and run report (I had his license plate number, truck number, cab number, and the Dot Foods contact info on the side of the truck)- the lady at Dot Foods had the nerve to insinuate that her truck wasn't in Louisiana at the time. NO lady, I drove to another state, found a random truck to pin damage on- and then wrote down all his information. Does she think I imagined the driver's description, truck number, license plate number and damage to my car? It's amazing I got all that info right! I must be psychic! Hopefully they pay up- I'm also thinking about writing a nice little letter to Shell Oil on behalf of my poor BMW 318i's fuel pump. My car's having a bad month.

    GMail

I wrote before about Gmail, the new Google mail I'm trying out. For those of you who have Yahoo or Hotmail, this is so much better. I love it because:
    * it saves your e-mails as conversations.. so you can pull up all of the replies & forwards at once.
    * You get 1000MB of space! Yes, you heard that write
    * There's as far as I can tell, no limit on attachments, I've sent 3 or 4MBS of files at a time, to and from the account.

There's some privacy concerns, but it's wonderful. If you have a blog through blogger, you might see the invite to try it through blogger.com - but if you want an invite, I have 3 left to give (because I beta tested). So if you want one of these accounts, let me know!

That's all for now.. SEACREST OUT!
