So.. I got the iPod Nano, the iPod Nano dock & the little socks that are totally adorable. I will post the picture once I get a chance. It should be here sometime next week, it took a few extra days because I got the free engraving option. But, even with the $300 I spent on everything (I got a generous $40 discount because I'm a student) - that's not the big purchase of the week....

I got a new car! A 2006 Subaru Legacy 2.5i SPECIAL EDITION, Atlantic Blue Pearl. I'm trying to figure out how to post a picture of it. It's a special edition, so it has the mechanical seats, special taupe trim, sunroof/moonroof, and 17 inch turbo wheels. It also has a huge dent in one door thanks to Hurricane Katrina, but I got a MORE than sizeable discount on the car, so I'm a happy camper. Go to www.subaru.com if you want to see it.

Trying to decide between an iPod Nano ($199) and a Movie iPod, whatever it's called ($299). For a hundred dollars more-- it seems more reasonable to get something I can watch TV on, but I really liked the extremely small size of the Nano. It can fit EASILY into the COIN pocket of a woman's pair of jeans! Plus, I LOVE that you can get the Nano engraved for free! Also, despite it's small size, I've seen reviews where it has been dropped out of windows and run over by bicycles and still kept on running, so it's very durable.

Quick Note: The new Harry Potter movie comes out on November 18th. Taryn comes home on November 19th, and therefore we will be going to see it that night (it's a Saturday) at 10:30. It's actually at the Clearview Palace, and you can pre-order tickets. I'll be ordering them tomorrow night, so if you want them, just call my cell or e-mail me. If anyone is coming in from out of town, you are more than welcome to stay at Taryn & I's place that night.

DON'T HATE
Yeah, Yeah..... once again I've faded into obscurity and am on the list for no-blog posting. But, this time I have a pretty good excuse, if I do say so myself.

JOB & STUFF
Performance Subaru & Performance MotorCar Gallery were obliterated by Katrina, with water inside of 11 1/2 feet. My desk, files, computer, all customer information and pretty much everything you can think of were obliterated by the storm. The only thing saved was the money in the cash drawer, which my dad was desperate enough to take home and boil (GROSS) and the cars that were parked on the roof, minus, of course, the one that I was going to buy, because it had not one, not two, but three stolen boats driven into, around, and on top of it. Of interest is that up to 20 people were living on the 2nd floor of the building during the storm, they had rigged car batteries with coat hangers to power a boom box, where they listened to CDs that they had looted (all, oddly enough, Matchbox 20)... they had made each office a different "room" - one was a kitchen, complete with makeshift coffee pot and looted groceries and alcohol, one a bathroom, one a laundry room (they made a clothesline for the underwear), and a bedroom. It was so sad to go through all of their belongings they left behind when the coastguard picked them up, including the photo albums and diaries they were able to save.

PASSING THE TIME....
While waiting for work to rebuild (we bought another building that had less water and damage and they are currently gutting and repairing) I got a job working through a temp agency at State Farm. I've been switched around a lot, but I'm currently working commercial catastrophe claims, the majority of which are condos and apartment complexes. You wouldn't believe how many nail salons and vet clinics were looted, I guess because of ketamine and other drugs... the nail salons is questionable, but I hear they don't accept anything but cash, so...
State Farm is a nice company to work for, so I've applied to work full-time as a catastrophe claim rep. I'll let ya'll know how that works out. Right now I'm working hellacious hours, 7am to 7pm, 7 days a week. That's right, 84 hour weeks, but at least I get 44 hours of overtime.

Also, I'm taking 4 online classes through the Sloan Consortium because they're graciously allowing me to take them for free. I wasn't about to pass up free classes. The online format is really aggravating sometimes, especially when it makes teachers think they can give you 5 time the amount of work-- but at least it's convenient.

FAMILY
My parents house and grandmother's house each got between 6-8 inches of water. They're having a rough time because my mom has severe allergies, but they just got a FEMA trailer. We were fortunate enough not to lose anything seriously important, like pictures, or keepsakes (although everything that my grandmother had memento wise is gone) - we were unfortunate enough to have just enough damage to really screw everything up. Because of the length of time it sat, pretty much the whole house needs to be gutted, but at least we still have a frame to work with, unlike some of my other dearest friends. I'm just thankful we all have our lives.

On that note, my other Grandmother passed away this week at the age of 84, just 5 days after her birthday. She has been battling cancer for about 4 years now, and was the toughest woman I have ever known. The one good thing about the hurricane is that it allowed me to live in Denham Springs for a whole month 1/2, and instead of seeing my grandmother once a month like normal, I was able to see her almost three or four times a week. Unfortunately, that makes me just realize more how much of an amazing woman she was and how much I miss her. The writer for the Times Picayune said her Obituary was the longest he had ever written, because of her surviving relatives. She had 13 children (plus another adopted) and over 40 grand children. Please pray for her, and also for my Grandpa, who is not taking this very well at all after 64 years of marriage to an awesome lady. I feel like he is not going to be far behind her...

I'VE GOT FRIENDS IN LOW PLACES....
Yuck. Tommy, just because I'm quoting a country song, do not at ALL think that you've got a chance at swaying me back to the "dark side." It's just because. Guys, I don't know about you all, but this has been the roughest 2 months of my whole adult life, and the worst part of it is feeling like I'm going through it almost alone. I get to talk to some of you occaisionally, and I know there's the distance thing-- but we need to keep in touch. I worry and care about each of you. So, I'll try to update the blog more often, and if everyone sends me their physical address (hotel, relative, whatever) I will send you a picture or letter or something for you to look forward to. I'm back in River Ridge finally, apt has no damage, so if anyone needs a place to stay you are MORE than welcome. Taryn's gone for awhile, so I've got a free room when my mom's not with me. And, you know where to find me.
